In this article we analyze the
themes of subjectivity, body and
education in Herbert Marcuse’s
work. The analysis focus on the
development of these themes in
Marcuse’s thought between 1930
and 1940. In view of the arguments
presented in Eros and Civilization
we discuss some possibilities of
aesthetics education in
contemporary society as well as the
singular position of Marcuse’s
thought within the Frankfurt School.
Our aim is to contribute to the
studies on the relationship between
Critical Theory and education as
well as to the investigations on
Marcuse’s philosophical and
political thought in the intellectual
circle of the Frankfurt School.
