Abstract

This article intends to discuss the
sport-hero profile as a strategy of
building up a determined
configuration of human subjectivity,
especially within the popular classes.
The purpose of this strategy is the
reproduction of the capitalist social
structure. The analysis focus on the
relation among three basic
components of this process, three
fundamental elements to shape the
sport-hero’s profile: the sport-hero,
social imaginary and mass media.
Furthermore, the article suggests a
critical analysis concerning the most
usual perspectives to approach the
sport-hero phenomenon offered by
Physical Education academic world,
and finally points out other
possibilities to analyse the sport-hero
phenomenon.
