The present text, a cut-off of our doctoral thesis, shows the contributions of the theoretical study for the professional development of teachers of early years of elementary school. . The referred research had as its locus the Research Group Knowledge, Beliefs and Practices of Teachers who teach Mathematics (CCPPM), active in Post Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Teaching of Cruzeiro do Sul University. The discussions on the theoretical studies formed an episode that shows specially the participation of teachers of early years of elementary school as the leading characters of their self-learning. For data analysis, the researcher used the transcriptions of audio recordings made during the work developed by the Group mentioned above. As theoretical contributions, the researcher built on studies about professional teacher development and collaborative work. Such episode revealed the importance of theoretical study and academic discussions as essential elements for building teachers’ knowledge, which account for the promotion of professional teacher development.Downloads
