This article presents the results of the execution of a project carried out during the Pedagogical Residency program in the curricular component Rural Education, which aimed to carry out a mathematical investigation action in the interdisciplinary context of a rural school, involving a practice of beautifying a cistern. For that, the research, classified as qualitative of the participant type, was carried out following the steps: characterization of the communities served by the school; production of representative drawings of communities; application of the mathematical investigation methodology to divide the cistern into 10 equal parts; dialogue about the importance of the cistern in a school and concepts related to the conscious use of water; and painting in each divided part, using the eight designs chosen to represent the communities. It is concluded that this project contributed to the promotion of knowledge through differentiated methodologies, which enable a link with their reality. As it is an interdisciplinary practice, the student was given the opportunity to establish links between the different areas of knowledge and to understand the relationship between theory and practice.
