Abstract

The aim of the present paper is to explore one of the various points of intersection between translation, terminology and linguistics, focusing on some of the support technologies for technical translators. First, we present a brief overview of corpus linguistics and its relationship with translation. Then, we discuss some of the keys issues in terminology research and glossary creation for technical translation. Finally, we take an indepth look at WordSmith Tools, highlighting the more promising aspects for terminology in this context.

Gabriela Castelo Branco Ribeiro, Pontífice Universidade Católica -RJ

Formou-se em tradução em 1998 na PUC-Rio, onde cursa o Mestrado em Estudos da Linguagem. Ministra aulas sobre localização de software no curso Formação de Tradutores da mesma instituição. Atuou como coordenadora lingüística na empresa SimulTrans até 2001 e foi sócia da Interface Traduções até 2003. Desde então, é tradutora e revisora autônoma especializada em localização, telecomunicações e marketing e negócios.
