Citizen participation in the digital evaluation of public restrooms: the Cool Bathroom case

Context: This article presents the main results obtained in the "Cool Bathroom" project, carried out at the State University of Santa Catarina (Udesc). The project aims to facilitate citizen participation in reporting problems and evaluating public restrooms in the units where it was implemented, through smartphones and without the need to install applications. This project helps to streamline the communication process between citizens and the person (or sector) responsible for restroom maintenance, potentially improving the efficiency of public service by using techniques and solutions co-produced within the university itself.
Objective: The objective of this article is to describe the project's results and its synergy between technology, citizens, and the institution in the management of a public university, offering reflections for the development of similar solutions for other public services, whether in universities or other organizations.
Methodology: This is an exploratory and descriptive research with a qualitative-quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out through online questionnaires accessible via QR Code, where users could evaluate the quality and identify the main problems of the restrooms in the units where the project has already been implemented.
Results: The results indicate that citizen participation, combined with new technologies, contributes to mitigating real problems faced in daily life.
