The article presents the results of a research whose focus is validation and its characterization in mathematical modeling activities. The article is outlined along a path in which, firstly, the BNCC and the Pedagogical Political Project for Degree in Mathematics courses, support the relevance of discussing validation and provide elements to structure the research question: how validation in modeling activities is understood and carried out in mathematical modeling practices in the classroom? This question is investigated through inventory research aimed at productions in the field of mathematical modeling as well as responses to a questionnaire answered by teachers familiar with mathematical modeling practices. The analytical process results in the characterization of different groups of ideas regarding validation considering the specificities of each context. Furthermore, the expectations expressed in the documents find resonance in the way validation is characterized in the literature.
