HISTORICAL AND EPISTEMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE WORD INFORMATION AND THE THEORIES THAT SUBSIDY THE PHENOMENA RELATED TO INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Abstract

Goal: to carry out a historical and epistemological analysis of the word 'information' and of theories that support the phenomenon, in order to offer more elements to achieve the full meaning of the expression information management. Design½Methodology½Approach: the methodological procedure adopted refers to a narrative review, based on the consensus and criticism of the authors on the available scientific production, which considers the experience and evaluation of specialists, familiar with the evidence of accumulated knowledge in the area. Results: presents the etymology of the word 'information', starting in antiquity, passing through the Middle Ages, reaching the 20th century and the quantitative and qualitative theories of information, with emphasis on the physical concept of entropy in quantitative theories and the concept of meaning and veracity in qualitative theories. Originality½Value: the deepening of the meanings of the term information over time, added to the physical concept of entropy and its repercussions from quantitative theories and the concepts of meaning and veracity and their implications from qualitative theories, add value to organizational studies of expression information management.
