Abstract

Goal: the objective of this research is to carry out a historical and epistemological analysis of the word 'knowledge' and the theories that support the phenomena related to knowledge management. Design|Methodology|Approach: the methodological procedure adopted refers to a Narrative Review, based on the authors' consensus and criticism of the available scientific production, which considers the experience and evaluation of experts, familiar with the evidence of the accumulated knowledge in the area. Results: presents the etymology of the word 'knowledge' starting in antiquity until the 21st century, highlighting the theoretical currents of knowledge and understandings about the expression knowledge management. Originality|Value: the expression knowledge management received historical and theoretical support from the identified meanings, added to the semantic load of organizational studies that already gather.
