Traduzindo a história do trabalho para a televisão

Este artigo considera os desafios e vantagens de traduzir a pesquisa histórica acadêmica para formatos populares de televisão. Ele traça momentos-chave no desenvolvimento de programas de história televisionados na Grã-Bretanha da década de 1950 até o presente e explora o impacto de duas mudanças recentes significativas: a fragmentação da expertise acadêmica tradicional; e o empoderamento do público. O artigo passa a discutir como essas e outras mudanças ajudaram a moldar a criação de duas grandes séries de história da BBC sobre o trabalho feminino, ambas apresentadas e coescritas pela autora (Servants, 2012 e Shopgirls, 2014). Este artigo é uma adaptação de um discurso principal da autora na conferência Worlds of Labor em Porto Alegre em 2018.
