This paper proposes to describe a concept of small child that
can seNe as support for educational and pedagogical projects for day-care centers, preschools or childhood education centers. For this purpose, the concept of social interadion is presented in association with the reciproca I interdependence of the dimensions of childhood growth and developrnent for
the identification of the special needs and charaderistics of children from Oto 6 years old. This articulation, in tum, justifies the implementation of proposals for attending to children based on the integration between care and education forsmall children. Based onthe alliance between care and education, aproposal for a pedagogy ofinteractions is approached as being that which attempts to breakwith traditional organizational modes ofpedagogical pradice in preschool
educational institutions. It is emphasized the programs for training of professionals be considered in orderto allowthem to acquire specific abilities aiming at the development ofbroad professional capabilities.
