The text summarizes dimensions of
João Roberto Moreira’s work and
his professional career (1912/1967).
Born in the state of Santa Catarina,
this sociologist of education was
associated to the intellectual
framework of Anísio Teixeira who
was the head of INEP in the 50’s
and early 60’s. He has conducted
research and diagnosis of the
Brazilian educational system, the
changes that should take place in
primary school so that it would be
an instrument for development and
he established the links between
education and development, theme
which mobilized the Brazilian
educational field in that period.
