Organization and daily school of gymnastica: a history at Imperial Collegio Pedro Segundo

This paper analyzes Physical Education in Imperial Collegio de Pedro Segundo (CPII), high school founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1837. We thought about the daily “gymnastica” in CPII between 1841 and 1870, observing the reasons and the individuals’ actions that made the institution to adopt the practice of these activities, the school agents’ profile that were responsible for them, their social representations, the contents supplied in their lessons and
where they took place.
