This article presents some questions, dilemmas, and discoveries from the study El papel de la escuela primaria en la construcción de la subjetividad [The role of elementary school in the construction of subjectivity] which for four years was undertaken by 24 researchers from five universities of Catalonia, Spain in the consolidated study group "Education, Innovation and New Technologies (FINT). The principal challenge in the process of writing this article has been in determining which factors, of the many that arose in this intense period, could explain why the reader should approximate the hypotheses involved in the experience of conducting a study about an “object” that frequently escapes our eyes, in the field notes and in the writing process. Finally using different records or writing modes, fragments of the process experienced in the study were selected that present our passage through what has not only been the understanding of how childhood subjectivities are experienced in elementary school, but how this process has affected our trajectory as researchers.
