Gaps in securing the right to school infrastructure in Paraná, Brazil: A study on secondary schools attended by beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família Program

The article presents an analysis of material and structural conditions in secondary schools located in Paraná, discussing the conditions of schools offered to poor students. Therefore, it compares data from the School Census and Presence System, the latter in charge of monitoring school attendance of those students linked to the Bolsa Família Program (PBF). Considering the idea that school offer conditions are unequal in Brazil, resulting from funding terms (FARENZENA, 2012) and from education as a matter of socialization that implies practical experience (BOURDIEU, 2009) the key question is: are school offer conditions equanimous in secondary schools with different participation of PBF students? The research analyses forty variables that makeup seven indicators. Twenty-two (22) variables present an unequal distribution when schools with fewer poor students are compared to those with a higher concentration of such students. All variables show a reduction in terms of equipment and structure in schools with a higher proportion of low-income students.
