Abstract

Based on a case study of a poor district public middle school located in a countryside town of São Paulo state, Brazil, this paper aims at analyzing aspects of public school culture that hinders possibilities of change in teacher’s work. It includes examples of school routine situations and professional meetings to illustrate clashes in the process of improving the development either of the teachers themselves or the school formative role. It also includes problems to reconfigure University-School collaborative research.
