This article analyzes the research in education and discusses how the bibliographic production published in A1 journals, between the quadrennial years 2013-2016. It has contributed to thinking about the practice of research in education. In order to answer the proposed problem, the work aimed to analyze the production of educational research from three constituent elements of the research: object or theme, methodology or work procedure and theoretical basis. Based on a socio-historical perspective, the work was developed from the identification and analysis of the elements of research based on the abstracts of the bibliographic units published between 2013-2016, developed in graduate programs in education with grades 7. It was considered only journal articles presented in the evaluation documents released by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). The identification of the intended elements in the analysis of the abstracts was done using a form, which was filled out by four researchers. Subsequently, the indications of the elements in the abstract text were verified, describing exactly what had been presented by the authors of each article, referring to the elements researched here. After the analysis of 223 articles, we understand that there is a certain lack of care when presenting important information for the presentation of the text in the abstracts. Moreover, we consider that the lack of theoretical-methodological rigor may cause certain weaknesses in the production of knowledge in education, since the field has moved away from the criteria of scientificity proper to academic-scientific productions.
