The present paper refers to the perception of evaluation of the assessment of learning and teaching process at the Education Center of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. lt has as its field of investigation the Departament of Teaching Methodology and the Departament of Specialized Studies in Education, from the first semester of 1979 to the second semester of 1987. It shows that the assessment is an abandoned area, field of preconcepts, frightening imagens, which bring about multiple rationalizations inhibiting teachers' access to new existing technologies. The paper brings out inadequate practices such as permanent approval of the students in some disciplines and giving the same mark to all students, for example, A or B. The research recommends new studies linked to the observation of the teachers' performance and to the analysis of the employed instruments. It calls for more attention to the institutional evaluation of teaching and learning assessment.
