Abstract

Through elements related to the field of science education, such as the existence of post-graduate courses and programs, specialized journals that publish research results and specific scientific events, it was found that this is a social field for the production of knowledge. Based on an analysis of dissertations and theses about science education defended in Brazil since 1972, this paper argues that the field is organized in collectives of thinking in keeping with that of the human sciences that investigate problems related to the systematized dissemination of scientific knowledge, which is characterized as a complex process of interaction between three large social-cultural circles. It analyses elements of this research dynamic that establish intracollective and intercollective communication. The latter is constituted by a broad spectrum, the variation of which runs from a well-adjusted harmony, to a practical absence of resonance. Considering the plurality of production, proposals are made to allow a greater approximation of the problems investigated by the field with those confronted by science teaching in Brazilian schools.
