A conceptual discussion for the understanding of the thermal equilibrium

Abstract

In this article we intend to show a conceptual analysis concerning thermal equilibrium. Although the concepts of heat and temperature are generally discussed in textbooks and everyday school experiences about Thermology study, the thermal equilibrium itself is somewhat neglected, somewhat it is setted without a satisfatory consideration. Many researches show the importance of a better comprehension of the thermal equilibrium. This comprehension would give the understanding of several other concepts about thermal phenomena. On that acount, in this study, we emphasize the importance of some topics which we consider relevant to the conceptual understanding of this matter. We shall consider the epistemological aspects of the question; the relation between thermal equilibrium and the concepts of heat and temperature; the historical development the notions concerning heat, temperature, and thermal equilibrium. Finally, we shall try to remark some similarities between various theories and the spontaneous conceptions concerning heat and temperature.
