Abstract

This article evokes the historical context of the creation of the Labor Court in Brazil and tells the story of an innovative partnership for the preservation of the archives of the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region, forged between this institution and the Federal University of Pernambuco. It also addresses methodological issues regarding the use of these cases presented to the Conciliation and Judgment Boards, by reviewing some of the academic literature based on these sources, as well as describing ongoing research projects. Pernambuco has strong historical ties to the sugar industry and, since the history of the workforce in this sector is our field of research, this article focuses on the relevance of the cases presented to the JCJ for the study of the sugarcane region.
