Abstract

Geodiversity is a relatively new area in the field of Earth Sciences, which gained prominence in the 1990s. Geodiversity is the study of the variety and importance of the natural elements that make up the Earth's surface, such as rocks, minerals, fossils, soils, water and landscapes. Despite a constant growth in interest and discussions on the subject in academic productions, studies related to Geodiversity Education are still relatively scarce. In order to contribute to the dissemination of concepts related to abiotic nature, as well as highlight its importance, this research aims to portray the perception of young students on the themes and content of Geodiversity worked on in the classroom in the Geography curricular component. The methodology included a bibliographic survey on the subject, especially on the discussion of Geodiversity in elementary school, as well as the application and analysis of questionnaires answered by students from two schools that make up the public education network of Altamira (PA). It can be concluded that knowledge about Geodiversity has been presented in schools in a fragmented way, and that the discussion of the concept of geodiversity is necessary in the process of redefining certain objects of knowledge in Geography, directing their respective approaches to the reality of the subjects and the place.
