Abstract

The article studies how using different elements of menstrual management affects the interruption of women’s activities in Colombia. Probabilistic models and the Social Pulse Survey (EPS, for its acronym in Spanish) carried out by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE, for its acronym in Spanish) during May 2021 to May 2022, on a sample of 24,805 women aged 18 to 55, are used. The results show that the probability of interrupting activities for women who use cloth, rags, old clothes, or napkins as elements of menstrual management is 3.7 percentage points higher than for women who use sanitary napkins. The difficulties of accessing clean and private bathrooms to change menstrual management items and the economic difficulties of acquiring said items are factors that increase the probability of suspending the activities carried out by women.
