The purpose of this paper is to understand the succession process and the professionalization of a family business located in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo. The qualitative case study was structured through interviews with family members including the founder and his successors. The results indicates the trajectory of constructing a family-owned business and its succession processes. The successors led the professionalization of management, introducing different innovations and improvements in managerial and technological perspectives, promoting more efficiency, quality and competitiveness for the firm. Therefore, we conclude that it is possible to improve the professional levels of a family firm without losing its family cultural background, once the family dimension is, undoubtedly, a business brand.
