Abstract

This was a descriptive and observational study, employing a quantitative-qualitative approach focused on nursing coping strategies in the face of death processes in adult ICUs, aiming to understand professionals' approaches. An analysis of 30 articles published between 2007 and 2022 was conducted, utilizing databases such as Portal CAPES, PePSIC, PubMed, SCIELO, and BVS. Identified strategies included religious coping, avoidance, denial, rationalization, workplace modifications, and protective factors against occupational stress. Professionals face complexities when dealing with death, emphasizing the importance of discussions in training and the workplace. Many struggle to associate death with caregiving, necessitating the adoption of protective and coping mechanisms.
