Abstract

Analysis of the production and the circulation of books in Brazil. It is discussed the censorship of the books considering as a reference the Order of Jesuits (1550) and the military action in the seventies. It treats of some strategies for socializationof reading such as the production of pocket books and the sales of books in drugstores. It is broached the didatic university student books and the action of COLTED and the role of INL in the way it can make books circle around the country and create public libraries. It is refered the forms of censorship that happen in Brazil as an impediment to a practice of critical reading, notoriously, the decree 1077/71.
