Objective: This article presents the main arguments used by Araújo (2016) in his article New conceptual framework for Information Science: information, mediations and culture in order to broaden the theoretical scope of information science.
Method: It uses a qualitative approach aiming to identify possible contributions of the Bakhtin Circle to Information Science.
Results: In the author's view, it is necessary to rescue the information science from a certain conceptual abstractionism, transforming it into a more pragmatic science, in which subjective and social issues are present in the reflection on information. For Araújo, this new bias would be in the direction of what has been called in the area of the third model. Corroborating the author's expectations, the aim of this work is to bring some contributions from the authors of the Bakhtin Circle, who, having the language as the epistemological center of his thought, have pragmatically faced questions concerning the human interaction and subjective formation.
Conclusions: In the whole of the reflections of the Russian authors, we find a very particular view of semiotics and ideology, the discussion about the genres of discourse, their social diversity of utterances and its social environments of realization, and also significant contributions on the interpretation of the social constitution of our subjectivity that can contribute to a more concrete and material view of information.
