DOI:
https://doi.org/10.5007/1518-2924.2021.78828Keywords:
Funding, Scientific research, Open Science, ScientometricsAbstract
Objective: it analyzes the research funding investment on the topic of Open Science under a scientometrics perspective and based on data collected from a dedicated database.
Methods: the data were collected from Dimensions.ai, a database owned by Digital Science & Research Solutions, during January 2020, on the restricted access searching interface, with the phrase “open Science”, limited to titles and abstracts.
Results: the analysis reveal the percentages of proposals financed and the amounts invested in the period analyzed, the outstanding projects in the period (both in terms of the funding duration and amounts), the average amounts invested, the main countries and disciplines affected by the investments, with emphasis on the United States of America, United Kingdom, and Germany and Information and Computer Science and Information Systems, respectively.
Conclusions: the data explored could be related to aspects highlighted in the literature, in addition to enabling an analysis of the progress and the consolidation of open science as a discipline, and a discipline that could be analyzed from de perspective of its funding sources.
