Reading of literary text: pleasure and acquisition of knowledge

The reading of literary text is an important concern of Portuguese language and literature teachers. In an attempt to refl ect on this issue, some considerations will be presented about the use of literary texts in the teaching process. The paper first discusses theoretical aspects of reading and their implications for culture and school, highlighting the mediating role of the institution in the formation of the public reader and the valorization of the literary text as a possible means to stimulate an alliance between youth and the text, allowing a singular experience with the work. The paper then focuses on the contributions of Vygotsky about the concepts of the zone of proximate development.
