In view of the recent demands for the teaching activity, it is emerging to problematize the standards of teachers’ education for the future. This article aims to discuss the context, foundations, and macro concepts developed by Edgar Morin (2006) and their implications in teaching training paradigms. The text is based on the results of a doctoral thesis developed in the Postgraduate Program in Education of the Federal University of Santa Maria, in the Line of Research Training, Knowledge, and Professional Development of teachers. The article is grounded on a qualitative research approach and organized from a bibliographic study of Edgar Morin’s works. Such works start from the history of the Cartesian paradigm until the launching of the foundations of systemic thinking, resulting in the theory of complexity. The theoretical evidence points to the repercussions of science in the education of different historical times, as well as translates the need for teachers’ education to be focused not only on the demands of today but also on the professionals of the future.
