This article has its objective to describe, analyze and explain the educational practices of mediation of conflicts of the educational counselors. The discussion is justified by the limits of theoretical production about the theme and by the contributions to the practices of mediation in which education professionals, students, and relatives are involved. The study was based on historical and dialectical materialism, on conceptual and historical elements about the notion of mediation and of conflict, and on contributions of authors of the field of educational orientation. Methodologically, it used semi-structured interviews performed with four educational counselors that, at the moment of this research, worked at public schools. The results are presented in four categories of analysis: a) Formation and experience, where it’s discussed the lack of specific educative practices regarding the advisors’ work, besides the meager theoretical material available; b) organization and work division, where the reproduction of the capitalist practices of work divisions in these advisors’ practice is clear; c) educative practices of conflict mediation, where it’s described the complex weft of activities done by those workers and d) professional identity, a topic where it’s approached the dilemmas that stem from the many roles they perform.
