Abstract

This paper presents and discusses the partial results of an ongoing research project that has been gathering information on translation course syllabuses and curricula from different countries, seeking for possible relationships between this information and the profiles of translation/translator’s competence found in the literature. The main rationale for that research is the apparent lack of consensus in relation to the theoretical and pedagogical configurations of a translator’s education/training, observed not only in the theoretical references from translation studies, but also in our own academic and professional experience in the field. Keywords: translation teaching and learning, translation courses,translator’s training, translation/translator’s competence, translators’ profiles.

José Luiz Vila Real Gonçalves, Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto

Possui graduação em Letras Licenciatura Em Português Inglês pela Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (1992) , graduação em Letras Bacharelado Em Tradução pela Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (1991) , mestrado em Estudos Lingüísticos pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1998) e doutorado em Estudos Lingüísticos pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2003) . Atualmente é Professor Adjunto da Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto. Tem experiência na área de Lingüística , com ênfase em Lingüística Aplicada. Atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Tradução, Competência Tradutória, Teoria da Relevância, Ciências Cognitivas.
