Aims to investigate the influence of the international scientific collaboration on the impact of scientific production in Animal Science. It uses the methodologies by Tennis (2003) and Hjørland (2002), analyzing the presence of international co-authorship in the articles of the Brazilian graduate programs of excellence in Animal Science, in journals with Qualis A1 and A2 (2007-2009). It’s evident that scientific production with international co-authorship tends to have greater impact, in accordance with Glänzel (2002). The results contribute to a better understanding of the methodology used and offers theoretical and methodological subsidies relating to its applicability in different fields and scientific communities.
