Bibliographic Control, Document, TerminologyAbstract
Objective: To question whether the term "bibliographic control" is sufficient to encompass documentary diversity present in different environments, such as libraries.
Methods: Bibliographic review about the various definitions of the term "bibliographic control" and "bibliography", tracing its history and raising comparisons and questions about its terminological scope.
Results: Given the multiplicity of terminology and definitions, we consider the term "bibliographic control" inappropriate to the documentary diversity produced by the institutions that deal with heritage.
Conclusions: We conclude that the term "bibliographic" can be replaced by "documentary". But we believe that the term "documentary control" fits our objectives more appropriately, since it has more relationship with the document itself.
