Objective: To present a theoretical framework on the Design Thinking methodology (DT) and its applicability in scientific research, particularly its adoption in the field of Information Science (IS).
Methods: Qualitative and descriptive approach utilizing the technique of bibliographic research with the aim of presenting some of the key concepts, stages, methods, techniques, and data collection instruments of the DT methodology, correlating its application to the IS field.
Results: Presents theoretical foundation taken from the DT literature, contributing to reducing the lack of theoretical studies on this methodology in the field of IS.
Conclusions: The DT methodology has been increasingly adopted in marketing projects and also in scientific research in the areas of humanities and applied social sciences, making its appropriation by IS entirely coherent.
