Abstract

Experimental modulus measures of the horizontal and vertical positions components of the spherical steel projectiles which were horizontally ejected after being released from distinct heights on a grooved aluminium track are discussed in this article in three different possibilities: supposing that during the projectiles movements its velocity is translational only; also considering its rotational velocity and, finally, associating these velocities with the effective radius concept which depends on the track groove width. The analysis of the results showed that the expected values for the position modulus components depends on the projectile effective radius suggesting that the development of the mechanical energy conservation experiments, in which spheres roll in grooved tracks, must be preceded by a suitable choice of the sphere radius used.
