Context and Objective: Reflecting on and systematically correlating the discussions that revolve around the urban growth versus sustainable development binomial, obviously proposes an integration of discussions under the triad: Urbanization, Environmental Issues, and Environmental Science. This is because Environmental Science is a multifaceted science that delves into various theoretical and pragmatic fields but centralizes its discussions from the perspective of the "Environmental Problem," which in this study is discussed based on the process of urbanization. Methods: To operationalize these concepts as well as to structure a descriptive-analytical exploration, this research adopted the strategy of an integrative literature review, with a qualitative approach and exploratory procedure. In this sense, the discussions that systematize and analyze the subject in question are divided into two perceptions: 1) the connection between Urbanization, Environmental Issues, and the New Urban Agenda - NAU; and 2) Urbanization: social, environmental problems, and their global challenges, with the combination of these elements proposing the discussions inherent to the subject in question. Results: Therefore, the reflections and final remarks refer to the central initial idea, which consists of highlighting the existing integration-distortion in the triad Urbanization, Environmental Problem, and Environmental Science as the necessary path to understand the content between Urban Growth and Sustainable Development.
