About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Interdisciplinary International Journal INTERthesis aims at providing a forum for interdisciplinary studies in the several areas of knowledge, specially the Human Sciences. The editors believe that a comprehensive understanding of the phenomena requires an interdisciplinary approach. In that sense, the Journal will accept original contributions on interdisciplinary themes bridging subjects mainly in such thematic areas as Studies of Gender, Society and Environment, as well as Human Conditions in Modernity. Articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish will be accepted, so as to not only unveil the interdisciplinary investigations originated in several countries, but also to provide easy access to the original texts. The journal will also publish, in proper sections, translations of chapters of books not previously edited in the Portuguese language, as well as reviews of recently published books.
AREAS OF CONCENTRATION
Human Condition in Modernity (CHM)
Area dedicated to the study of the different aspects of the contemporary human condition, focusing both on theoretical issues and specific questions about the group and individual social action and organization in today's world. The aim is to clarify and understand the complex phenomena underlying the great dilemmas of humanity in modern times, focusing on both globalization and its influences on the technique and work, and on group and individual representations arising from occurring sociocultural changes.
Gender Studies (EGE)
Interdisciplinary Studies of the historical, social and culturally formed speeches on sexual differences - gender studies. Issues such as politics, sexuality, health, reproductive rights, work, family, generations, domestic violence, communication, homosexuality, identity and subjectivity are developed. There is integration among the gender studies nuclei of the different departments and courses of the Philosophy and Human Sciences Center, in the exercise of interdisciplinarity, aiming at encouraging research and becoming a broadcast channel of the work performed in the area.
Society and environment (SMA)
Interdisciplinary study of the socio-environmental issues within the debate on globalization: of the risks and challenges of its governance. The focus is on theoretical and applied topics, relating quality of life to the evaluation of environmental impacts, environmental planning, sustainable development, the role of Science in the analysis of technological and environmental problems as well as to ethical aspects of these issues.Peer Review Process
Papers submitted for a specific section will be evaluated firstly by the Editor and by section editors, according to the guidelines in item 1 of the Papers Evaluation Guidelines. In case of a negative evaluation, the authors will be notified within 15 days. In case of a positive evaluation, the approved paper will then be sent to two reviewers outside INTERthesis, who shall, within 15 days analyze, approve (with or without modification requirements) or turn down the work. In case of divergence in the analyses a third reviewer, chosen by the Editor in charge amongst members of the editorial board, shall cast the final vote. The section editors responsible for the papers appreciation process must notify the authors of their paper’s acceptance or of its refusal. In case of acceptance “with modifications or restrictions” the authors shall be allowed 10 days to send INTERthesis the modified version of the paper. After this deadline the paper shall still be accepted but will lose its position in the queue of papers registered with INTERthesis and be placed last in it. The section editors responsible for the paper appreciation process, in their turn, must comply with a 10 day deadline for verification of conformity to the reviewer’s demands and then inform the scientific editor in charge that the text has been accepted. In case after the final appreciation the text is rejected, the paper authors shall be notified of the reasons for this rejection. Order of publishing is to be defined by the editor in charge, according to criteria of opportunity and convenience.The editors reserve the right to make minor changes and/or minor edits in texts submitted in order to adequate them to INTERthesis norms, maintaining their original style and contents.
Publication Frequency
Periodicity
INTERthesis is a semestral publication. The files for submission must be in Microsoft Word, Open Office or RTF format, provided they do not exceed 4MB, A4 page size, with the following configuration: the text line spacing must be 1.5 and 12 point Arial font must be used; italics must be used instead of underlining (except in addresses URL); figures and tables must be inserted in the text, and not placed at its end. The upper/lower margins must have 2,5 cm and side margins, 2,5 cm. The text must have a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18 pages, including figures, pictures, tables, images and references. In case there are notes, they must be placed at the end of the page, numbered in sequence.
Open Access Policy
Free Access Policy
This journal provides open access to all of it content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work. For more information on this approach, see the Public Knowledge Project, which has designed this system to improve the scholarly and public quality of research, and which freely distributes the journal system as well as other software to support the open access publishing of scholarly resources.
Digital Preservation
The Revista Internacional Interdisciplinar INTERthesis Journal is concerned with ensuring long-term access to its content. In case any incident occurs in the serves, the digital files of the journal are preserved in the Rede Cariniana, using the LOCKSS program. LOCKSS creates a file system distributed among the participating libraries, which allows them to create permanent files of their journals for preservation and restoration.
