Identity, belonging and political engagement in social media

Abstract

By adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, this article analyzes the changes introducedby social media in society starting from concepts such as identity, territory and public policiesand its transposition to the virtual world, which is considered a multidisciplinary object. Social medias as a territory of belonging, in which is possible for governments to establishmechanisms to control public policies that are more democratic and participative due to virtualinteraction, is a premise defended in this article. The end of the article shows how government and community today have the possibility to dialogue and build actions, projects and programsfrom the engagement and political activism practiced in social networks. As methodology,a bibliographic review was delivered and allowed the discussion of concepts fromdifferent areas of knowledge, establishing a relationship between identity,territory and social media.
