Editorial Policies
Preprints
In accordance with the Open Science movement, INTERthesis journal supports the use of preprint servers and accesses manuscripts previously deposited on trusted servers, such as SciELO Preprints: https://preprints.scielo.org/index.php/scielo/user/register
The journal upholds the use of institutional repositories to deposit versions of your article, as well as repositories aimed at the preservation, dissemination and reuse of data, such as SciELO Data: https://data.scielo.org/ and Sherpa/Romeo: https://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/
In any of the cases above, you must inform the journal during the publication process.
Peer Review Process
INTERthesis adopts double-blind peer review in its editorial process.
All originals are pre-validated by the editors who take into consideration matters of content (originality, presence of interdisciplinary methodology, thematic validity, general structure) and form (if there the template is correct, if the necessary information is filled in on the platform, if the file Work Notes is included). Otherwise, if the criteria are not met, authors will be notified within15 days about the rejection of the manuscript.
If endorsed by the editors, the manuscript will be referred to two external referees who will be responsible for the analysis, approval (with or without changes), or rejection of the manuscript within 30 days. When necessary, the editors may request the participation of more referees. The editor responsible for the manuscript evaluation process will notify the author about the status “Acceptance without changes,” “Acceptance with small adjustments,” “Required corrections” (and another referees’ analysis round), or “Rejection” and termination.
In the cases of “Acceptance with small adjustments” and “Required corrections” (and new rounds of analysis by referees), the author will have a deadline of 30 days to submit the revised manuscript to INTERthesis, along with a document commenting on the alterations made. The editor responsible for the manuscript evaluation process will send the referees an updated version of the manuscript, plus the document containing the comments and/or justifications, to verify that the revised text meets the requirements and can be accepted, or still requires changes or will be rejected.
If the final decision is to reject the manuscript, the author will be informed of the reasons and the manuscript will be terminated.
If the manuscript requires small grammar, spelling, and changes in form for the sake of homogeneity of the publication, the editors are entitled to perform such small changes, respecting the author’s style. In other cases, the author must reformulate the text according to the journal’s requirement.
The editors are also entitled to reject manuscripts whose content is significantly similar (plagiarism) to other works in any part of the process, for this purpose the journal uses the Ithenticate software for plagiarism detection.
The average response time between acceptance of the original manuscript and the confirmation of publication confirmation is approximately 150 days.
Open Data
Data are scientific records that validate research results. Research data vary according to the field of knowledge and includes: textual documents, spreadsheets, statistics, laboratory reports, journals, questionnaires, transcripts, audiovisual files, photographs, methodologies, research workflows, partial reports, and other materials created and/or collected throughout research development. These are based on the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
INTERthesis advises that all research data and codes be shared and published on a reliable repository. Therefore, we strongly recommend all data to be deposited on SciELO Data upon the approval of the manuscript approval, Research Data Deposit Guide can be consulted for this purpose.
If the data is hosted in a public repository, it must be indicated on the article the name of the repository, data identification number, direct URL to the data, and DOI.
Fees
INTERthesis jornal does not charge fees for the submission and/or processing of articles (APCs).
Ethics and Misconduct, Correction and Retraction Policy
The editors will act upon identifying any suspicion or allegation of misconduct. The investigation will cover both submissions and published articles.
INTERthesis uses the COPE flowcharts as an instrument to ascertain facts and determine necessary actions in resolving cases. The journal also follows SciELO Guidelines for registering and publication of retraction.
Policy on Conflict of Interest
Conflict of interest can be of a personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial nature. It may arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that could influence the preparation or evaluation of manuscripts. Upon submitting the manuscript, authors are responsible for acknowledging and disclosing any financial or other type of conflict that may have influenced their work. If there is, even potentially, a conflict of interest, the author(s) must report it in a signed document, attaching it to the manuscript submission.
In the process of manuscript evaluation, involving authors and reviewers, the journal INTERthesis rigorously ensures, through its editorial team, the establishment of a policy to prevent the involvement of individuals with personal relationships, whether friendly or adversarial, as well as those involving people and institutions.
This procedure aims to ensure the reliability to the process of analysis of submitted material, thereby increasing the credibility of the published articles. In this regard, authors and reviewers are requested to contact the Editorial Board if the following situations arise: a) personal and institutional connections or conflicts (of a familial or political nature) between reviewers and authors; b) financial support obtained during the development of the work that may affect the impartiality of the review, potentially compromising the reliability of the research produced. In the event of any conflict of interest, the author(s) must report it in a signed document, attaching it to the submission For more information see: Disclosure of Financial and Non-Financial Relationships and Activities, and Conflicts of Interest.
Adoption of Similarity Checking Software
The editors reserve the right to reject works that have content significantly similar to other works (plagiarism) at any stage of the process where it is identified. To this end, the journal uses Ithenticate software for plagiarism detection.
