Abstract

The context of hosting sport hallmark events and mega-events in Brazil points to the necessity of expanding the notion of politics that would subsidedebates and analysis. Particularly, we understand that the Foreign Policy might aggregate concepts and understandings to study the sport mega-events, considering its international character. Therefore, we described the international system in the 21st century to contextualize the Brazilian Foreign Policy agenda during the Lula government. Then, we relate this agenda to the 2016 Olympic and Paralympics bid. This process opens the possibilities and interpretations for the studies that aim to analyze the government involvement in these events.
