Abstract

This paper considers the theoretical practice as both a challenge and a perspective to educational research. The concept of "theory" has been understood as an abstraction,distant from the daily activities that frame reality. If on the one hand, this way of understanding "theory" has been viewed as a challenge. On the other, "theory" has been considered a perspective when it assumes the concreteness of thinking, that is, when ''theory''-reality is understood as elucidation of reality-''theory''. These different forms of understanding "theory" are supported by altemative forms of understandingthe relations between ''theory''-practice, theory"-ideology the role of philosophy in social sciences.
