Abstract

Considering a word may be understood in many different ways, according to the discursive formation in which it is inserted, this work aims at contrasting the meanings of the term equivalence in two fields of Linguistics: Translation Theory and Bilingual Lexicography. Therefore, we try to demonstrate the incompatibility of the same term in the referred fields, considering that theorists of both fields treat it in different ways.
