Objective: to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial orientation on the perception of innovation in a public HEI (Higher Education Institution).
Methodology/approach: survey research was carried out in an HEI in the state of Pará, in the northern region of Brazil that has been promoting innovations and entrepreneurial orientation actions.
Originality/relevance: more and more the public sector has been charged for deliveries to civil society, which is the one who “finances” activities in the sector. This study narrows the discussion and analysis of the relationship between the promotion of innovations and the entrepreneurial orientation of leaders and managers as a way to achieve these “deliveries” to society with more efficiency and better quality.
Main results: the positive and direct influence of the analyzed factors can be highlighted, namely risk-taking and competitiveness, proactivity, autonomy, and innovativeness on innovations.
Theoretical/methodological contributions: the findings of this research contribute to narrowing the academic debate between the two themes at a managerial level in the public sector, in addition to exploring and exposing results from a region of Brazil that is not yet as developed as the others in terms of the IES.
Social contributions/contribution to management: it exposes the need for leaders and managers to outline practices that encourage entrepreneurial orientation to stimulate the development of innovative practices by employees in their different versions.
