School library’s education roll in the context of the National e Education Plan

Abstract

This study aimed to find out how the school library and the librarian are contextualized in the National Education Plan (PNE), promulgated by Federal Law 13,005 / 2014. The fact that the current social, educational and technological paradigms require citizen skills in search, retrieval, evaluation and use of information, recorded in their various media, to solve problems justified the investigation's purpose, and that the teaching of such skills is inherent to the librarian. Moreover, the need to reflect in the literature, librarian contributions in the school library in order to Federal Law Nº 12.244, that makes mandatory the presence of this professional in all the country education systems, by the year 2020. Sought in the literature review the theoretical framework by which clarifies what it means by school library and its educational role. Also sought, through Federal Law 13.005 content analysis, the aspects of the library and the librarian included in the PNE. It is considered, on the results of the research, that information literacy is a process by which it meets social demands for information skills and that library is seen, through the PNE, as an educational and cultural space that fosters the quality of basic education.
