Popular demonstrations and citizenship in the "Rebel Cities" of sporting mega events

The editorial aims to contribute to the debate about the popular demonstrations of June 2013, during the FIFA Confederations Cup, its implications for public policy of the cities and possible derivations to the field of physical education, sport and leisure. The social demands of the young people, who took to the streets were many, especially related to the scarcity and the poor management quality of public resources allocated for people's basic rights, such as transport, health, education etc. The counterpoint was the complaint of excessive public spending to meet the FIFA and IOC requirements, in view of the major events planned for Brazil, without the announcement of an effective social legacy policy for the host cities. These texts compose the edition's Thematic Section, which also contains an Original Articles section and Porta Aberta, with essays and review.
