The purpose of this text is to discuss the culture category in relation to the living conditions and education of migrant children from the perspective of dialectical historical materialism. Part of two surveys carried out on migrant children in Santa Catarina (Brazil) and in the United States of America. The first was carried out by the second author during her master's degree in education at UFSC between 2015 and 2017 with migrant children in the Municipal Education Network of Florianópolis through studies, observations, interviews and conversations with migrant children at school. The second was carried out during the postdoctoral work of the first author at the City University of New York in 2020 with Latino migrant children exploited in rural work in the United States of America through field observations, analysis of reports on work and migration in the fieldwork, theoretical studies and interviews with activists, Latino immigrants and conversations with working children. Finally, it concludes that the researched realities, even if through different paths and objectives, denounce the essence of migratory processes, going beyond the superficial appearance of cultural diversity and freedom of individual choice to migrate. Migration is an expression of a social and family process of struggle for better living conditions and survival, as well as the capitalist crises wich created a mass of leftover/unemployed workers who roam in search of better living and working conditions. Migrant children express the generality of life, exposing the co-relationship between class, work and culture in human migration processes.
