Objective: This study analyzes the inefficiency of the university's public transportation system in meeting the demand of the academic community at the State University of Santa Catarina, located in Balneário Camboriú.
Originality: The motivation for conducting this diagnosis stems from the challenges to student retention caused by difficulties in commuting, delays in public transportation routes, and schedule incompatibility with academic dynamics.
Methodology: A quantitative-qualitative research approach was used through an online questionnaire with broad participation from the student, faculty, and technical staff of the university.
Results: The results indicate that 100 out of 266 respondents do not use public transportation to access the university. This disparity suggests a significant gap between the supply of public transportation and its adoption by the academic community. In parallel, 48% of the academic community cites incompatibility between routes and schedules and their university routine as the reason for not using public transportation.
Contribution: It is concluded that the adoption of technological measures can mitigate the difficulties of accessing public transportation to the university, such as the provision of exclusive bus lines, the implementation of bus corridors, and coordination with surrounding municipalities to offer regionalized transportation.
