Abstract

This article analyzes distance education (DE) courses organized by the Open University of Brazil (UAB) and discusses the Brazilian institutional scene on DE. The scientific production about DE in the international and Brazilian scenes is presented and differences and similarities among the publications are outlined. Publications on DE in Open Archives are analyzed using SciELO as a sample. It is concluded that the scientific production on DE is distributed in several journals and it is recommended that peer-reviewed academic publication should be made available in Open-Archive indexed journals.
