Abstract

Presents a brief review of literature on the role of competitive intelligence. Outlines the main
desirable skills of intelligence professionals in actuality, as studies of Oliveira and Lacerda,
Katz and Miller. Proposes a model to assess the risk of human capital in competitive
intelligence activities (MARCHAIC). The construction of the model followed four main
steps: literature search, defining the scale of measurement, construction and testing of the
model in a fictitious company in the supermarket sector. The results showed that
MARCHAIC may be an important tool for managers in that it allows the identification and
management of critical points related to the skills of professionals involved in competitive
intelligence functions.
